Innocean Digital News.

Dear Friend,

This week in Digital News, we have a bit of a mixed bag for you. From brands who are combining creative with mathematics, to Google's latest grab to own the entire online universe... These new developments in the online world show us how much we need to diversify in order to keep up with the Joneses!

Audi worked out how to make their creative 3x more effective
Innocean - Creative 3X

Normally we get a media plan and we create the spots right? Audi says no. Why? Because it's possible to actually predict the effectiveness of a piece of creative in advance, with crazy accuracy using the geek power of econometrics. And Audi have been doing it with amazing results. They measure the effectiveness of their creative BEFORE going to market, and then decide on placements types, dynamic messaging, and channel spend based on their predictions. What are the results? Better performing campaigns of course, with creative that is up to 3x more effective... Pretty smart.

Google wants you to "Play with me"
Innocean - Stadia Games

Google already own pretty much all of our data. They know what we like based our searches and they've used that to create the biggest ad network in the known universe. However Australia will not get the service until sometime after 2019 because of NBN being a mess or something. The thing for us to keep an eye on as advertisers is if they are going to integrate it into their ad network... Like we need more digital ad formats right?

Nintendo makes a cardboard virtual world
Innocean - Nintendo

Once upon a time... about this time last year actually, Nintendo released Nintendo Labo. A wonderfully creative way for kids to customise their Nintendo Switch, with cardboard toy creations. And this year Nintendo have upped the ante by throwing virtual reality into the mix. Nintendo Labo VR allows players to create a range of cardboard VR headsets that run off their Nintendo Switch. And they can even design their own VR experiences too!

Burger King burns their competitors
Innocean - Burger King

For those who skimmed past Jacko's 'Genius' email last week, you really did miss a piece of marketing genius. Burger King have created an app that lets you scan a competitor's ad with your mobile, and it will 'burn' it on screen to reveal a free whopper. Apart from being a great idea, the added value to any brand who can get users to download an app to their phone, is that you now have an owned media channel that you can use to re-market them... For free. Something we should be thinking about? In case you missed it, check out the BK app in action.
